About Jasmin

Jasmin Bauomy is an award-winning documentary journalist and story editor specializing in work that spans the wide field, in which journalism meets artisanal storytellingeditorial leadership, team building, and helping organizations shape stories from concept to completion.

Most recently, until October 2024, she was Senior Producer and Story Editor at TRZ Media, where she pitched and executive produced HITZE – Letzte Generation Close-Up—a documentary series about Germany's controversial climate activism movement. The show won the German Climate Journalism Prize. She also co-created, edited, and hosted Little Devils, TRZ's first independent original show.

Jasmin builds community for audio creatives. She's particularly interested in creating spaces that allow for the exploration of different kinds of storytelling while being guided by peers in the field. To do that Jasmin
founded THE ECCO, an international initiative running 6-9 month residencies (pan-European, pan-Arab) for people in the documentary field to experiment with format and explore non-commercial work. THE ECCO has grown into an international network of supporters and collaborators. In Berlin, she organizes regular gatherings for audio creatives.

Her previous roles include launching Al Jazeera English's first podcast The Debrief, producing award-winning work for The Take, leading creative audio at Blinkist, co-facilitating Spotify's SoundUp accelerator, and hosting & producing Creating Markets for the International Finance Corporation.

Jasmin is known for
solving problems in all disciplines, finding the right format, building teams, and turning complex topics into compelling narratives.

Approach

Journalistic work requires balanced coverage, but bringing our own perspectives to the table is essential for the effort to unbias the news in its skewness towards Eurocentric, ableist, and patriarchal views.
Jasmin's multiethnic and multicultural upbringing, as an Arab-European or European Arab, has sensitized her to stories she might not have found otherwise. This shapes not only who she is, but also her work and the environments she chooses to work in.

Jasmin works in the area where journalism meets art, building nuance rather than paint with broad strokes.  She trusts audiences can handle complexity and lets them draw their own conclusions without oversimplifying for accessibility.

Equal opportunity and equitable access matter to her in the stories she tells and the teams she works with. Having a seat at the table means nothing if your voice isn't heard.  She applies this philosophy to every aspect of her work.
